Paul Newton Brown was born in San Angelo, Texas, on November 6, 1934. He was the son of Olvia “Dutch” Eubanks and Bill Brown. He grew up in McCamey, Texas, and attended McCamey High School where he lettered in football, basketball and band, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. While in school, he met his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Kay Slaughter. They married in April of 1954, and remained united in marriage until her passing in 1986. Paul earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Texas Tech University. He started his career in education as the football and basketball coach at Ropesville High School. Paul moved his young family to Odessa, Texas, in the early 1960s to teach biology at Permian High School. He was also the first swim coach at Permian and taught Distributive Education. Paul remained in the Ector County ISD for over 30 years until his retirement in 1994. He married the second love of his life, Joan Bailey, in July of 1987. Paul and Joan enjoyed Sunday morning sermons as members of First Baptist Church of Odessa.
Paul found joy in his family, camping, fishing and his love of Permian football. His greatest joy was being with his family and watching his children and grandchildren grow and follow their dreams. At his leisure, he could be found with his many lifelong friends golfing, playing cards or fishing in a mountain stream. Paul had a unique way of endearing himself to all he came in contact with. His love of the Lord was most evident by the way he treated others. He is loved and will be missed greatly by many.
