

Roxie Ruth Friday Wheeler, 85, went to be with the Lord, Thursday morning July 14, 2011 on her birthday. She was born July 14, 1926 in Van Zandt County to George and Mary Ethel Friday. Because she was born and raised in a boot shop she learned to walk in a pair of cowboy boots made by her daddy. Roxie Ruth graduated from Midland High School in 1944 and then married her high school sweetheart who was “The Best Looking Man Around,” Raymond Wheeler, June 12, 1944.
Roxie Ruth was a sweet loving lady, she never complained about anything, and always enjoyed the company of her family. She loved life and had many talents including: gardening, sewing, painting, and the greatest of these, storytelling. Roxie Ruth always held her audience captive even though the stories she told were memorized by all who heard them.
Survivors include Rebecca Ruth Holt of Odessa, Ronnie Wheeler & wife Lorraine of Odessa, and Shirley Williams & husband Brad of Odessa. She is also survived by her brother, George Friday of Midland, grandchildren include: Melissa Chamales of Lubbock, Todd Williams of Odessa, Monica McBroom of California, Tonya Chavez of Odessa, Jeramie Carrieri of Florida, Cristy Peralta of Odessa, Jasson Wheeler of Odessa, Joshua Martin of Austin, Robyn DeArmond of Bedford, and (16) great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Lonnie Hamil officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Midland.
