

Tommy E. Walker, 75, of Odessa won his battle with pancreatic cancer and has gone to receive his healing with our Lord and Savior on, February 10, 2011.
Tommy was born January 16, 1936 in Shawnee, OK. to Charles A. and Thelma Maylene Walker. The Walkers were of Osage Indian Heritage. The family moved to Abilene in 1938 . He was a graduate of Abilene High School participating in football and baseball. He continued his education at Hardin Simmons University. Tommy worked for his father at Abilene Plumbing & Heating Inc. earning his Masters license in plumbing. There he met and married Mauverine Gray of San Antonio and relocated back to Abilene in 1979 assuming ownership of Abilene Plumbing & Htg. Inc. and AAA Plumbing & Htg. Inc. until he sold the business in 1992. Mr. Walker then worked in maintenance for TDCJ at the French-Robertson Unit in Abilene and was promoted to supervisor at the Walker-Sayle Unit in Breckenridge, TX. He and his wife both retired from TDCJ in 2002 and were able to enjoy their retirement in New Mexico, Abilene and Odessa. They settled in Odessa, TX in 2008 and Tommy worked for Greater Opportunities of Permian Basin (Head Start) as maintenance supervisor.
Tommy was an active member of the First United Pentecostal Church, Odessa. He was a faithful servant and stood fast on his beliefs and convictions spending many hours in God’s word. He was led by the Holy Spirit and was a blessing to everyone that knew him. Tommy was a shining example of how to glorify God in all that we do. He looked forward to church every time the doors were open and was well read in scripture, reading the Bible from cover to cover many times. He lived life for his God and his family, touching countless lives along his walk. His leadership and tender heart will surely be missed. Tommy was a perfectionist and loved his work. He took great pride in a job well done and received great joy from pleasing others.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mauverine Walker of Odessa, sons, Christopher Walker of Angleton, TX , Lee Rode Walker & wife Rhonda of Allen, TX, Ken Walker & wife Kim of Abilene, daughters, Kristi Walker Brown & husband Randy of Midland, Mauretta Walker Gray & husband Tim of Odessa, and Tracy Lynn Walker Bell of Plano, his brother, Acie Walker of Azle, TX, his sister, Wynona Walker Green of St. Louis, MO, (20) grandchildren, and (4) great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by “Puddin” (his toy Yorkie) his prayer partner & companion, parents, Charles A. & Thelma Maylene Walker, brother, Jim Walker, sisters, Deloris Walker Lucas, Maylene Walker Carnes.
There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Terry Pugh officiating. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene with Rev. James King officiating.
Pallbearers will be Rode, Kendall, Bryson, Blayze & Austin Walker, Cade Koitionski, & Tim Dunn.
