Twyla Moore Greenfield

Twyla Jo Moore was born May 1, 1939 in Winters, TX. She attended first grade in Abilene, TX., later attended Merkel public schools graduating in 1957 where she played clarinet in the band, was Future Homemaker of the Year in 1957, president of the Future Teachers of America, officer in the FHA and president of the Methodist Sub-District Youth Fellowship. She obtained an Associates of Arts in Science at Odessa College and a Bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross State University, majoring in Education and minoring in English, graduating Cum Laude. She was employed by ECISD for 27 years, teaching gifted/talented regular class, Alternative Education, Emotionally Disturbed, Learning Disabled and Educable Mentally Retarded. She also taught two years at Odessa Christian School and was Interim Principal for two years. The love of her life was teaching children and seeing the light of understanding come to their eyes. She had a talent for writing poetry and wrote poems for her students while she was teaching. She was a World Bible School Internet teacher and had 150 students in 50 countries for several years. She taught Bible School for several years and was a Bible class supervisor. She was nominated Teacher of the Year twice in her teaching career- first as a second-grade teacher and then as a special Education teacher.
She married Andrew Jay Greenfield on June 21, 1957 and they moved to Odessa shortly thereafter. She was a Member of the Sherwood Church of Christ and dearly loved her church family. She and Jay were foster parents for several years and adopted three older girls; Debbie, Amy and Tiffany.
Jay and Twyla had two sons Daryl Jay Greenfield and Lance Cade Greenfield. They have two grandchildren- Nicole Ann Greenfield and Colyn Bryant Greenfield. Survivors include her husband of 64 years Jay Greenfield, son Daryl and daughter-in-law Cindy Greenfield, Son Lance Greenfield, nephew Michael Womack and his two children; Mike and Daniella, and sister Gloria Isom. Preceding her in death were her sister Pat Moore, father Laverne Moore, Grandmother Myrtie Moore, Grandfather Dee Moore, aunt Irene Meeks and Daughter Amy.

Oh Twyla. You will be missed. I saw you days before you passed and you looked beautiful, as always. I’m so sorry to know of your struggles these past years.
You were a dear friend and mentor to me and I loved you dearly. I’m praying for your wonderful family that I always heard so much about; you were so proud of them all.
Jay, I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m praying for you, your sons and grandchildren.
