Warren Lambert Banes Warren Lambert Banes of Odessa, Texas, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital, Odessa, Texas, at the age of 98. He was born in Glenpool, Oklahoma to Harry L. and Willie Disa (Reser) Banes, June 2, 1913. He graduated from Bristow High School as Salutatorian of the Class of 1931. He was a member of the first graduating class of Bristow Junior College. He attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, 1936. On November 11, 1937, Mr. Banes married Donivee (Donna) Western in Bristow, Oklahoma. The Reverend B. I. Cherry officiated. They were married 73 years. Mr. Banes was employed forty-one years with the Phillips Petroleum Company. He was an active member of the Crockett Junior High, Bonham Junior High, and Permian High Band Boosters. He worked with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as a volunteer. Mr. Banes was a member of the original Board of Directors of Odessa 66 Credit Union (now Southwest 66 Credit Union), and was a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Odessa. He was also a Life Member of the Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Masonic Lodge. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Banes moved to San Marcos, Texas. There he volunteered for the Tourism Visitors' Center, American Associate of Retired Persons Tax Aide, and Meals on Wheels. He was active in the First Baptist Church of San Marcos and the senior adults' Saints Alive program. After sixteen years, Mr. and Mrs. Banes returned to Odessa. Warren enjoyed RVing and fishing with the Phillips Petroleum Philresters, trout fishing, vacationing with his family in Colorado, and rafting the Rio Grande in Big Bend. He is survived by Donivee Banes, his wife of 73 years, one daughter, Donna Kaye Banes Gaddy of Odessa, one son, Warren L. (Sonny) Banes, Jr. and wife Edna, Richmond, Virginia, one sister, Wava Henry and husband Reese, Grand Junction, Colorado. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Stuart Gaddy and wife Georgia, Cisco, Texas, James Gaddy, Odessa, Joe Gaddy, San Marcos, Dr. Stace Gaddy, New York City, Sims (Banes) Lamason and husband Shawn, Atlanta, Georgia, and Brett Banes, San Francisco, California; one niece, four great-grand children, and seven great-great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters, Vada Banes and Eula Banes, and his brother-in-law, Jack Turner, Lubbock, Texas. Grave-side services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Thursday, September 15, at 11:00 am, with Reverend Curtis Brewer, First Baptist Church, Odessa, Texas, and Reverend Dr. Edna Banes officiating. Funeral services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

I remember Mr. Banes from when he was employed at Phillips and he would visit Vinson Supply to buy materials. He as a gem in my opinion. I liked him and am sorry for your loss. You know he had a great life and you need to recognize that he is in a better place. Godspeed Mr. Banes.
