

Albert Monroe Hester passed away January 29, 2014. One of three children, he was born September 2, 1925 in Harrah, OK to Alfred and Anna Hester. He was a long time resident of Choctaw. In his teens, he boxed under the coaching of Louis L'Amour and was known as the KO Kid. He enlisted at 17 and served as a Navy Corpsman in the WWII. While serving, he wrote to Maxine Whisenant nearly every day and after being discharged, he married her on March 24, 1946. Albert had a career at AT&T and retired in 1984. After retiring, he and Maxine owned Cupboard Antiques. Albert was a talented woodworker and enjoyed restoring antiques. He and Maxine enjoyed being close to family and being part of the church family at First Baptist Church of Choctaw. Albert served as a church deacon, was a member and director of the choir, and entertained by playing his harmonica. Preceded in death by Maxine; his son, Jim; grandsons: James Michael Hester and Brian Taylor; brother, Henry. Survived by son, Max Hester of San Antonio, son Bert Hester and wife, Liz, of Osage; grandson Hank Hester and wife, Twylla, and children: Haley, Hannah, and Hank of Yukon; grandson, Kyle Hester and wife, Laci, and children: Grace, Nate, Gabe, and Liam of Sapulpa; granddaughter Kimberly Nei and husband, Darin, of Tulsa; grandson Jon Hester of Tulsa; daughter-in-law Candy Hester of Choctaw; sister Dorothy Spence of Lexington; niece Barbara Conrad and husband, John, of Noble; numerous grand nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Choctaw with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw, Oklahoma.
