He was born in Sioux City, Iowa March 20, 1930 and is preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Sam Skalovsky, his brother Eddie Skalovsky, and his sister Myrna Kopp. Albert is survived by his wife, Shirley of 67 years, his son Edward (Mary), his daughters Karla, Staci Skalovsky Minchen, his son, Ron (Marty), his 5 grandchildren, Brian Skalovsky (Stephanie), Stephen Skalovsky (Deana), Emily Skalovsky, Matthew Minchen and Elyse Minchen, his 2 great grandchildren Sammy Skalovsky and Hallie Skalovsky, his sisters, Nikki Singer, Libby Marks, and a large and loving extended family.
Albert was one of 5 children and grew up working from a young age in his family's scrap metal business, studying and playing his string bass. Albert was always driven and focused. He excelled in school and loved the string bass playing all through middle school and high school. After high school, Albert attended the University of Oklahoma where he received a business degree in accounting. He was accepted to play in the OU varsity orchestra as the only non-music major. In addition to his university studies and the varsity orchestra, he played in dance bands on Friday evenings, worked for his father on Saturday, and played in bands again on Saturday evenings. Albert completed his degree and was working on his master's degree when he was drafted into the army as a 2nd Lieutenant in artillery. It was during his army service that he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. Albert was quickly promoted to First Lieutenant and was serving in Fort Hood where he and Shirley have very fond memories of their early married life.
Albert was accomplished in many areas, but most passionate and driven by his work. Albert took charge of Standard Iron & Metal Co., LLC and Standard Steel Co., LLC at the early age of 30 when his father passed away unexpectedly. Albert's passion and drive to succeed grew these companies to what they are today. He worked 6 days a week with inspiring integrity until the age of 91. In addition to being devoted to his family and his work, Albert continued playing in dance bands as a hobby and even had the privilege of playing with the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra and Governor Bellman's inaugural ball. Albert also loved jazz, classical music, history, baseball, bowling, OU football and all things scrap.
He was active for many years in his community. He was a member of Emanuel Synagogue for decades where he served on the board of directors, and other officer positions over the years, B'nai Brith where he served as president and in the early years he was active in his industry organization where he served on the board of the ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter.
Albert will be sorely missed by his family, friends and business associates.
