Alberta Ruth Nutter

Alberta "Bertie" Nutter passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on November 27, 1964, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to William Albert Sissem and Grace Millard Thorpe, Alberta grew up in a proud military family. Alongside her older brother, Patrick, she spent her childhood moving throughout the country as her father's Army career took the family from one duty station to the next before graduating from Andress High School in El Paso, Texas.

Inspired by that legacy of service, Alberta proudly served her country in the United States Air Force for more than 21 years.

She retired as a Senior Master Sergeant, serving the final seven years of her distinguished military career as a First Sergeant, where she became known for her compassionate leadership, unwavering integrity, and steadfast commitment to the Airmen and families entrusted to her care. During her service, she earned a baccalaureate degree from Park University and later completed a Master of Human Resources degree from East Central University. Following her retirement from the Air Force, Alberta continued a career devoted to serving others through Workforce Oklahoma, Tinker Air Force Base, and ultimately Rose State College. As Associate Vice President of Human Resources, she faithfully served the College for ten years, retiring in the fall of 2025 after a distinguished career marked by professionalism, integrity, and genuine care for others.

A breast cancer survivor, Alberta transformed her own journey into one of encouragement and hope for other women facing similar challenges. Her experience deepened her compassion and strengthened the quiet resilience that would define the rest of her life. Above all else, Alberta treasured her family. Introduced through dear friends Michelle and Sandy Scher, Alberta and Darrell shared a single dance to Keeper of the Stars. Alberta often said she knew she was going to marry him after that one dance. What began that evening grew into a marriage of nearly four decades filled with unwavering devotion, laughter, and adventure. After their marriage on January 27, 1987, Alberta became Michelle's mother by choice, building a relationship rooted in unconditional love, steadfast support, and enduring friendship. She also lovingly embraced Christina, completing a family bound together by love rather than biology. In time, being "Granny" to Heather, Tyler, and Tomas became one of her greatest joys. Alberta treasured lifelong friendships with Rita, Sherrain, Anita, and Tonya, whose companionship enriched her life through every season. She found happiness in the simple things—classic country music, cruises with Darrell, Wordle, a Diet Coke, and the many beloved dogs and cats she welcomed into her family. Alberta will be remembered for her servant's heart, infectious laughter, quick wit, generous spirit, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She believed every challenge in life was an opportunity to lift someone else, and her legacy of service, compassion, and love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. Alberta's memory include her devoted husband, Darrell Edward Nutter; her daughters, Michelle and Christina; her grandchildren, Heather, Tyler, and Tomas; her brother, Patrick, and his children, Emily, Elizabeth, and Andrew; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
