Althina was brought into the world by a midwife in rural Crescent, Oklahoma, in a log cabin with dirt floors on February 25, 1945. She was the eighth child of seventeen born to Bose Patmon and Bessie Patmon. As a young girl, she loved cooking biscuits for her father and helping her mother in the kitchen. She attended Douglas School in Crescent (the black school) until the ninth grade, before transferring to Crescent High School, where she graduated.
Following high school, Althina moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she met and married William Swan. Together they raised three daughters and two sons while living in Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Crescent, and finally Edmond. Althina believed that God placed her on this earth to be a mother. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, supporting them in every aspect of their lives. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and participating in school and sporting activities. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, coached little league sports, and was known for baking treats for her children's classes. She loved the Lord and firmly believed in "training up a child in the way he should go." She expected excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field and modeled discipline through her own life. She maintained an active lifestyle through Jazzercise, biking, aerobics, walking, and healthy eating.
While raising her children and later helping care for her grandchildren, Althina pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Central State University in 1995. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, often holding part-time jobs while serving full-time with the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Edmond. After 29 years of dedicated service, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and professionalism.
Althina also devoted 10 years as a volunteer in the maternity ward at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, where she found great joy in serving new mothers and their families. She loved traveling, especially when it involved supporting the activities and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Most importantly, Althina was a faithful member of Victory Temple Church of God in Christ for more than 40 years and a devoted servant of God for over 60 years. Her life reflected her unwavering faith, generous spirit, and steadfast love for both God and family.
Althina peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Jones, whom she married later in life; her children, Shuri Rand (William), Rhonda Joyner, Lynnette Swan, William Swan, Jr. (Harmony), and Ahmad Swan; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bose Patmon and Bessie Patmon, and granddaughter Alexis Swan. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her example and cherished memories will continue to inspire generations to come.
