He is survived by his three children, son Andy Mullican and his wife Pam of Matthews, NC; son Jon Mullican and his wife Dana of Sunnyvale, TX; daughter Susie Haltom and her husband Brad of Broken Arrow, OK, as well as ten grandchildren: Kristen, Andrew, Kimberly, Rachel, Katherine, Sarah, Daniel, Jared, Joshua, and Jacob.
Born and reared in Vian, Oklahoma, the third son and fourth child of Virgil and Lois Mullican, he was a long-time resident of the Oklahoma City/Bethany area.
Mr. Mullican was a Korean combat veteran. He attended Connors State College and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, the first in his family to earn a college degree.
Mr. Mullican met Kay Francis Violett in 1953 and convinced her to marry him in 1956. After completing his degree at the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Mullican and Kay moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where Mr. Mullican worked as a sportswriter for the Enid News. In 1960, he and Kay moved to Oklahoma City where Mr. Mullican worked for Western Electric. The couple welcomed three children into the family as Mr. Mullican entered sales with Phoenix Mutual; he remained in professional sales until he started his own mobile car battery service business, Electra-Start of Oklahoma in 1987. He ran this sole proprietorship for 28 years until the age of 87, stopping only because his children asked him to do so for his own safety.
Late in life and after Kay’s death, Mr. Mullican met a caring companion in Wilma Meador, whose daughter Diana became a second daughter to him.
Mr. Mullican was a member of the Rotary Club, the Lion’s Club, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Mr. Mullican had a penchant for cars of all kinds, foreign and domestic. If it had four wheels, he knew its make, model, and year of manufacture by sight. He enjoyed leading singing at any Church of Christ he attended and rarely missed a Sunday service. Mr. Mullican was always generous, providing help to anyone in need.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Kay Francis Violett Mullican and all his siblings: Harlan, C.L., Marie and Don.
A Celebration of Mr. Mullican’s life will be held on Friday, October 5th, 2018, at 11 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A private, family burial service will follow. In Mr. Mullican’s honor and in lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
