On September 28, 2025, Anita Spencer Clark Ashley left this world, for her heavenly home, to join Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, as well as her beloved daughter and the father of her sons.
Anita was born in Cameron, OK on April 14, 1935. She has resided in Oklahoma City for more than sixty years.
Anita began her volunteering career as an early supporter of The Jesus House, working with Ruth and Betty, who had started a soup kitchen. Soon, the need of the homeless became so great, the Jesus House became a refuge from the cold and a place to sleep and eat; And to learn about Jesus.
While earning a living as a legal secretary for many years, her love for the law led to volunteering as a CASA advocate, representing neglected and abused children in the Juvenile Court System. The problem she ran into there was that she wanted to take all the poor little ones home.
When she wasn’t busy helping the less fortunate, she found time to be President of the Oklahoma Art Museum, a member of Pen and Quill Book Club, OKC Christian Women’s Club, the Orchestra League and the Oklahoma Hospitality Club.
In 1990, Anita joined the Women’s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma. Anita was a faithful supporter or many of the SAWA programs, most notably the “Welcome Home” initiative. Her generosity has clothed many young women trying to re-start their lives and helped those same women to care for their children.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Madeline Spencer, her brothers Benny, Buddy, and Jimmy, her sister Rosemary, beloved daughter Mary Kathryn, and her husband Lowell Clark.
Anita is survived by her husband Charles Ashley, her beloved daughter Susan Elizabeth Hatfield of Edmond, Oklahoma, sons Jeffrey Dean Clark and Todd Spencer Clark of Pequot Lake, Minnesota, granddaughter Katy Harrison of Edmond, Oklahoma, grandsons Dustin Walters of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Spencer Dean Clark of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, great-grandsons Lennon Harrison, Finn Harrison, and Otto Walters, as well as a host of other family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 West Hefner Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73120 under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors.
