Anita was the matriarch of the Sheline family. She deeply loved her family, church, and God, whom she served faithfully. Anita Sheline, 93, of Oklahoma City, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 08, 2025 in her home at Southern Plaza.
She was born in Shawnee, OK, in 1931 to E.W. and Mary Munn. Anita grew up in the Tulsa area. She enjoyed riding horses on her uncle Mac’s land near the river. She graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1949 before attending Oklahoma Baptist University where she was once reprimanded for holding hands with Paul in the school library.
Anita met the love of her life, Paul Sheline, in 1948 at a church softball game in Tulsa. The two were married on July 21, 1950, and were married just shy of 75 years. They welcomed their first son, Stephen Paul, in August 1951 and their second son, David Lee, in May 1955. She loved spending time at their home at Lake Tenkiller. In her thirties she grew tired of sitting on shore or in the boat watching bubbles as the rest of the family was scuba diving. So she took swimming lessons, the prerequisite to her becoming a certified SCUBA diver, which she did. Later she also learned to water ski.
Anita and Paul loved to travel the country, and Anita would use the trips to research her genealogy. She made sure to stop at every state capitol along the way. She used her research to later publish a 400-page genealogy book on her family. When available, her grandchildren would travel with them. Anita enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren Maddox, Derek, Grayson, and Brooke, and she loved attending and supporting them at all of their events.
Anita was a Portland Avenue Baptist Church member for 73 and a half years. Every Sunday, you could spot Anita by the hat she wore. She started an ESL class at the church, and some of her first students were the people who had a car accident with her husband (they were the reason she started the class).
Anita was a GA (Girls in Action) director at Portland Avenue for many years and one of the early Whiz Kids tutors. She also faithfully taught Sunday School for many years. When there was a food bank distribution at church, she would get several extra boxes for neighbors. She could be seen walking down the street with many food boxes on her walker.
Anita was a stay at home mom and did office work for her husband. When her boys were younger, she was the Cub Scout den leader. She loved selling World Books, where she was a top area manager.
She also began a partnership with SACO Sales, a lighting manufacturer rep for commercial lighting fixtures, like her husband.
Anita will always be remembered for her generosity, love for missions, dedication to her church, and love for her family. She leaves an amazing legacy for our family to follow. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, E.W. and Mary Munn, sister Mary Lou Blair and husband B.C., sister Dorothy Fox and husband Harold, brother Robert Munn, husband Paul Sheline, son Stephen Sheline, and many nephews and nieces.
She is survived by son David Sheline and wife Debi of Yukon, grandson Mike Sheline and wife Jennifer of Cashion, granddaughter Kim Mullican and husband Tony of Oklahoma City, grandson Kyle Sheline of Los Angeles, CA, great-grandchildren Maddox and Grayson Mullican of Oklahoma City, Derek and Brooke Sheline of Cashion and several nephews and nieces.
Viewing is Tuesday, April 15, at Hahn-Cooke/Street & Draper from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and the Funeral Service is Wednesday, April 16, at Portland Avenue Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Go Missions Fund at Portland Avenue Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated.
