Arnold Edward Griesel

Arnold Edward Griesel, a man of many talents, a lover of Scotch, and life's simple pleasures, passed away on July 12, 2023. While his departure leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, the memories they hold dear will forever keep his spirit alive. Arnold's genuine warmth and spirited nature will be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him.

Born to Byron and Velta Griesel on November 12, 1942, in Dalhart, Texas, Arnold graduated in 1960 from Yukon High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1966 and was stationed at Phan Rang Air Base in Vietnam during its early days, 1964-1965. Arnold then went on to earn a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from Central State College in 1970.

Arnold embraced life with an adventurous spirit and an unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his son, Keith, Keith's wife, Laura, and their children, Wilhelmina (Willa) and Theodor (Teddy), his daughter, Meagan Hanson, and her son Owen. Arnold adored his role as a grandfather and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. His love and influence will forever be etched in their hearts.

Throughout his life, Arnold found solace and contentment in a few simple pleasures. He had an appreciation for fine scotch, savoring its rich flavors and enjoying it with friends. Fishing was another passion of his, providing him with tranquility and a chance to connect with nature's beauty. Sailing with Doc Ted and the Sail Pending crew brought out his fun-loving but competitive nature. Arnold's culinary skills were renowned among his friends and family, as he delighted in cooking meals that brought loved ones together. Additionally, his ability to fix things with his skilled hands became a hallmark of his resourcefulness and earned him the nickname “Arnold Fix-It”.

Arnold was not only a loving father and grandfather but also a loyal friend. He shared a special bond with his friends, Dr. Ted and Sally Fortmann, who sadly preceded him in death. Their memories brought both laughter and solace to Arnold's life, and he held them dear in his heart. He also made new friends during his time at Baptist Village, notably Janice Barton.

The Emde family, daughter in-law Laura’s family, also played a significant role in Arnold's life, welcoming him with open arms to their events and celebrations. Their friendship and support created a sense of belonging for Arnold, and their shared moments brought him immeasurable joy.

As we say our final goodbyes to Arnold Edward Griesel, we honor the cherished memories he left behind. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in the lasting impact he made on their lives.

Arnold is survived by his son, Keith, and Keith's wife, Laura, and their children Wilhelmina and Theodor, his daughter, Meagan Hansen, and her son Owen of Oklahoma City, OK.

We invite you to join us in a celebration of Arnold's life and the memories we hold dear at the memorial service, which will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment with military honors in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Arnold's honor to the Center of Family Love or the Okarche Lions Club. Your generosity will honor Arnold's memory by supporting causes close to his heart.
