Barbara Peaden began her journey home on May 17, 2019 after a long and difficult illness. Barbara will be missed for her unrelenting positive spirit, humor, grace and her knack for a “no nonsense” approach to life. Barbara will be missed, but she is in peace at last. Barbara will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on May 21st at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Barbara Goddard was born on January 29, 1932 and was raised in the Drumright and Cushing, Oklahoma area. After completing high school, she married Lewis Peaden and then moved to Oklahoma City. Lewis and Barbara were married for fifty-six years and he preceded her in death in 2005. While in Oklahoma City, Barbara began a family that would include two boys, Martin and Charles. Barbara was deeply involved with her boys’ upbringing, as a den mother for the cub scouts, the official scorekeeper for little league baseball, and the ringmaster/supervisor for the neighborhood children which frequented her home, especially during the summer time.
Barbara was very active in her church. Barbara taught Sunday school for several years and sang in the church choir. Barbara was keenly focused on influencing children to make proper choices and live a good, useful life. Barbara’s interest in children included her involvement in “Whiz Kids”, a tutoring and mentoring program with Buchanan Elementary School, which Barbara joyfully participated in for several years. Barbara enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. Barbara moved to Saint Anne’s Retirement center in 2016 and made a host of new and valuable friends. It became a treasured home for her filled with dominoes, cards and other enjoyable activities.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Martin and his wife Wendy and their two daughters Barbara and Brenda of Santa Cruz, California. Also surviving is her son Charles and his wife Lisa and their son Sam of Norman, Oklahoma. There are also three surviving grandchildren, Austin, and adopted grandchildren Jon and Elizabeth.
