Barry Bennington Bruce

Barry Bennington Bruce passed away February 2, 2013. He was born June 8, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia to Ardyth Gragg Bruce Little. Barry was raised until school age by his beloved grandparents Bessie and Callie Gragg in Lovell, Oklahoma. He attended Sequoyah Elementary School, Taft Junior High and graduated from Classen High School. Barry furthered his education at Oklahoma State University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Architecture. While at OSU he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Barry had a decorated and extensive career in healthcare architecture. His work can be seen across 33 states and 8 countries. Some of his architectural accomplishments include; Key leadership roles for architectural firms of CRS, FKP and WHR; starting his own firm The Bruce Partnership; receiving the highest architectural award of the AIA College of Fellows. He also established long lasting working relationships with Clients; Memorial Hermann, Northern Michigan, Oklahoma Heart, but he was most proud of the mentoring and influence he bestowed to so many in the architectural field. Barry had many hobbies in his life, he loved to read and travel to different areas to play golf. He enjoyed sunsets, playing with his dogs, telling stories (mostly of himself), Oklahoma State football, University of Texas football, and chicken fried steak! He was proud of his Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and enjoyed attending family little league and high school sports, but his most favorite hobby was spending time with his family and friends. Barry is survived by his daughter Tracy Lynn Slate and husband Brian, son Gregory Alan Bruce and wife Jana; Grandchildren, Tia Rivers and husband Tobias, Bryson and Trey Slate, Behr, Bentley and Bauer Brice, and great grandchildren, Briana Jones and Ethan and Isabelle Rivers. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 6th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5th.
