

Basil K. Vrentas was born in Kardamyli, Messinias Greece on January 1, 1936 and passed away on February 1, 2022. In 1946, due to his father’s transfer, the family established residence on the island of Kefallinia where he finished high school and subsequently immigrated to the USA in May of 1955. After a brief stay in Kansas City, Missouri, he moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, he began working for Western Electric Co. while attending night school. He was drafted in the Army in 1958 and served in Europe during which time he served as an interpreter for the Greek National teams in NATO’s military, athletic, and social events.
Basil returned to Western Electric Co. after completing his military service and spent the balance of his career in management with the same company (Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies). He retired in 1996 from Lucent Technologies with 40 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement playing tennis, traveling, and serving his Church of St. George as president, treasurer, chanter, and member of the choir.
He is preceded in death by his parents Konstantinos and Irene, and his sister Jo Ann Fotopulos.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life Tasia, his daughter and the apple of his eye, Irene Gianos, son-in-law Peter Gianos and his grandchildren Margo and Kosta who filled his life with joy and love, his sister Aphrodite Kartalias of Greece, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces both in the USA and Greece.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund in his name.
A Trisagion Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 7, 2022 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Basil will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park following the service.
