Benny Richard Garcia

May 7, 1956May 9, 2020

Benny passed away on May 9, 2020 in the home he loved with his wife Brenda by his side. He leaves a legacy of generosity and kindness to others and will be missed by many. Benny was born in Oklahoma and chose to make it his home. He traveled extensively for his job and when asked if he had a favorite place, he always answered, “home.” Music was central to his life. As a talented guitarist, he played in numerous bands over the years. He spent the last 30 years working for his dear friend Vince Gill. Benny loved his job and the travels involved took him around the globe. He made friends everywhere. Benny loved everyone and judged no one. The number of lives he touched is truly amazing. Benny and Brenda were married for over 40 years. During their lifetime together, his first priority was always his family and his many friends. Benny loved animals and was proud to be Dad to his beloved Yorkies, Gibson and Gomez. In addition to his wife Brenda, Benny is survived by his mother Clara, his sister Lisa and her fiancé Jeff, and his brother Paul. He was predeceased by his father Benny. Due to the current social distancing there will be no public service at this time. A gathering to celebrate Benny’s life will be held at a later date.

Dear Brenda. I just now heard about Benny’s passing. I cannot tell you how sorry I am. I have had the pleasure of knowing Benny for about 30 years now. My wife and I are close friends with Vince and we have attended a great many of his concerts over the years. Benny was always the one who got us in and took care of us. He was such a wonderful man. I can’t tell you how many times he took his own backstage pass off and handed it to us. I can’t tell you how many times I have sat there and talked to him or watched him as he got Vince’s guitars ready for the next song. Vince’s concerts will never be the same for us without Benny. As much as we will miss him, I know Vince will miss him so much more. May he rest in peace. Harry & Ann Bickel

A friend of mine knew Benny, and when we attended a Vince Gill show, he gave us both t-shirts for free. I still wear that shirt to the gym. His obituary said he was kind and generous and I would agree. I am glad I got to meet him, and glad Vince honored him on the Opry

I met Benny in 2009 when he went to see my brother, Frank, about purchasing our dad's 1953 Fender Telecaster for Vince. Well, he bought it and my dad would be proud that his guitar was being played by Vince. Benny was the nicest guy anyone could ever want to meet. I was shocked today, October 21, to find out about this just now. Rest in peace Benny and I will never forget you and how caring you were. Love you, Maryann Leinbach Harding♥

Vince, Brenda & family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Benny was a sweet man and so kind to all of Vince’s fans. I met him 25 years ago at one of the concerts in the round at the South Shore Music Circus, He always remembered me and was so supportive during my own cancer battle in 2009. I can’t imagine a Vince Gill concert without Benny Garcia there. I have been to more concerts than I can count and Benny has always been there. I hope he and Dawn Sears will be enjoying music together in heaven. God be with you.

I did not know Benny, but feel like I do because I have been a life long fan of Vince Gill. I've been to many concerts and saw Benny at work who took such care of the guitars and of his friend, Vince Gill. What a special friendship, we are so blessed to have special people in our lives.

My condolences to you and your family. May God Bless you and your loved ones.

I met Benny Garcia on an American Airlines flight into Dallas, TX some years ago, we talked the entire trip. He told me about his awesome friendship and career with Vince Gill, I told him about my more boring work in neurosurgery. I don’t remember where the flight originated but I’ve never forgotten the sweet man who made me smile the entire way. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Benny’s many friends and family ...thank you for sharing him with me for a few short hours.

My deep and sincere condolences, Brenda. I, like many others, met Benny because of Vince, but when that happened, I was only 12 years old. From that point on I don't have a single memory of him that is not kind, warm, frequently hilarious, and generous. If you ever met Benny you loved Benny. Instantly. As the years went by, the first margarita I ever had was prepared by Benny. Before I learned how to solder my own, he built me my first custom silent-plug cable and said Merry Christmas. When the great flood washed over the city in 2010 and a bunch of my stuff was in Vince's locker.....did Benny ever take care of me then. He called me one afternoon about insurance stuff and said, ”I know you might be wondering if this is okay or asking 'should we really be doing this?' but I want you to know it is okay and this is what insurance is for. What was the value on that one? I'll get it filed.” Then, because I was about to go get lunch down the street and told him so for whatever reason, he said “it’s always time for a burrito,” a statement I still quote in endurance to this day. I never saw him be mean to anyone. Ever. And I'm sure he gave me more boxes of strings that I corroded in about 5 minutes that I can remember. I love you Benny.
