Bette Ben Prater of Oklahoma City passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the age of 72. Bette was born on April 16, 1949, in Oklahoma City, where she grew up and graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1968. She attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and also Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She was then employed by the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1972 and worked there as a police service technician in various departments until her retirement in 2007 after 35 years of service.
Bette and her husband raised two boys in Oklahoma City. Bette was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her family on many wonderful vacations. She had a great love of animals and a special fondness for elephants and she donated to various sanctuaries. She especially loved spending time with her four grandkids and family.
Bette is survived by her husband Dennis R. Prater; her son, Philip Prater: her son Johnathan Prater and his wife, Natasha Prater, and beloved grandson, Zain Prater, and granddaughters, Regan Prater, Mya Prater, and Emalee Prater.
Bette was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Hood - Bell in 1996, and her father, Dr. Ben Bell in 1948. Bette lived with a lifelong dream that was to one day meet her dad, which she has now fulfilled. Condolences can be made on the website at www.hahncookfuneral.com.
