
Betty Grace Bishop, aged 85, passed peacefully into Jesus’ loving care on February 14, 2017 following brief care at Mercy Hospital. Betty was born November 11, 1931 in Rogers, AR the daughter of William Harrison and Nora Pearl Burnett.
In 1955, Betty married Sam Hembree of Stilwell, OK and together raised two beautiful daughters, Kelly and Kim. After more than 25 years of service, she retired from Southwestern Bell in 1986. Following Sam’s passing in 2002, she discovered her new love and married Lawrence Bishop of Mallard, IA in 2005.
Betty was a 35-year member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City and was an active member of the Journey Sunday School class. She enjoyed Hearts and Hands, Retired Fellowship, playing dominoes every week, and she ministered to countless friends in difficult times by writing personal cards of encouragement.
Betty is survived by her husband Lawrence, brother Tris Burnett of Broken Arrow, OK, daughters Kelly Willis of Yukon and Kim Turechek of Oklahoma City, grandsons Geoff and Andrew Willis, granddaughters Amy Fleming of Mustang, OK, Amanda Turechek of Denver, CO, and great-grandchildren Branson and Aspyn Willis.
There will be a viewing open to the public on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. We will celebrate Betty’s life at Chapel Hill UMC, 2717 W Hefner Rd, OKC, OK at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service for immediate family members will follow at Chapel Hill cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas TX 75284-1125.
