

Services for Betty Lucille Wayman Murray Hollingshead, 89, of OKC will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 11 am at Resurrection Free Methodist Church 6000 N.MacArthur in OKC. Public visitation will be held at Guardian West Funeral Home 9 am-8 pm Monday, Dec. 26, with family greeting friends from 6-8 pm Mon evening.
On December 20, 2016, Betty Lucille Wayman Murray Hollingshead, 89, of Oklahoma City, OK went to be with her Lord. Betty was born in Goltry, OK on August 20, 1927 to Jesse and Mildred (Secord) Wayman. Betty was the 9th of 12 children. In 1953 she was married to Donald Edward Murray, and in 1962 they had one daughter, Kelly, before his passing in 1963. After teaching school for 13 years in Kansas, she moved back to Oklahoma and earned her Masters Degree in Family Relations and Child Development from OSU. While earning her Masters she started the Glencoe Senior Citizens Center, in Glencoe, OK.
In 1971 Betty married Ralph Arthur Hollingshead, they were married for almost 40 years until his death in 2011.Betty worked in various roles at the Deaconess Home of Redeeming Love (now Deaconess Pregnancy and Adoption Services) for 22 years, where she retired as the director in 1989.
Betty helped to found the Oklahoma Adoption Coalition. She also worked as an adoption placement supervisor for several adoption lawyers in Oklahoma City, following her retirement from Deaconess. Betty was an avid reader, a writer, loved entertaining guests in her home, and was active for many years in the Free Methodist Church.
A Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend, she is preceded in death by husbands, Donald Murray, and Ralph Hollingshead, her parents, Jesse and Mildred Wayman, sisters, Ruthalie Heffner, and Lida Cooper, and brothers Dean, James, Clarence, Byron, Phil, and Bob Wayman. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Dalrymple of the home, granddaughters, Amanda Shell and husband Graham of OKC and Rebekah Dalrymple of the home, brothers Rev. Hugh and Betty Wayman of OKC, Rev. Sam and Donna Wayman, Jay and Pauline Wayman all of LaGrange, TX, and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by many other close friends.
