Betty attended public school through the 10th grade before transitioning to homeschooling, where she completed her GED. After high school, Betty went on to earn her associate degree in Business from Rose State College. Betty lived in Oklahoma her entire life. She lived in Enid until 1955, later moving between Midwest City and Oklahoma City before settling in Newalla, where she remained until her passing.
Betty was a lover of music and enjoyed listening to country, western, and Christian music. She loved colors like dark blue and green—especially the green of money. But what Betty loved most was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, listening to their laughter, and, of course, going to garage sales.
Betty taught those around her many useful skills, including cooking, baking, crafting, and making blankets. But some of her most important lessons went far beyond those skills. She taught her family to be strong while still keeping their kindness, to be outspoken, to take care of their family, and to always remember where they came from.
Betty will be remembered for her loving heart and for always making those around her feel that she would be in their corner. She was feisty, strong, and fiercely loving, and she cherished nothing more than the family she created.
Betty married the love of her life, Willis Clyde McCraw, on July 15, 1966 after dating for a year. They shared 61 beautiful years together.
She was also a member of the Little Axe Fire Auxiliary during the 1970s and 1980s and later retired from Tinker Air Force Base after a 28-year career.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Myrtle, her sister, Carolyn Sue Hamilton (William Brady Hamilton), her granddaughter, Jessica Shackelford and her beloved fur baby, Spunky.
Betty is survived by her husband, Willis Clyde McCraw; her children, Willis C. McCraw Jr. (Vicky Johnson), Linda Kay Rowe (Robert Taylor Rowe), and Michele Ruth Brophy (Darryl Lee Brophy); Twelve grandchildren, including Adam McCraw, Nicole McCraw, Duncan McCraw, Michael Brophy,Gary McCraw, Tasha Clifford, Kody McCraw, Lee Brophy, Shannon Brophy, Jacob McCraw, Cheyann Brophy, and Montana McCraw; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; four nieces, and two nephews
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who cared for Betty at Norman Regional HealthPlex during her final days.
Betty leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lessons, laughter, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the family and friends who were blessed to know her.
