Betty Jean Meixner was born on August 7, 1951, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Gerald Lawrence Meixner and Catherine Jo Paul. She grew up in Oklahoma City, spending some years living in Mississippi and Idaho before returning to Oklahoma City in 1974, which remained her home.
Betty was a proud graduate of high school and carried a lifelong love of learning through reading, creativity, and trying new experiences. She especially enjoyed mystery novels and British television shows, and she believed strongly in slowing down to enjoy life rather than filling every moment with busyness.
Those who knew Betty will remember her as caring, kind, and always willing to help others. Family and friends were at the center of her life, as were her beloved “fur babies,” who brought her endless joy and laughter. She delighted in stories about her nieces and nephews and found happiness in simple, meaningful moments.
Betty loved country music and music from the 1980s and time spent in her flower garden. Her perfect day included being with friends, walking, reading, and knitting baby blankets, scarves, or items for family, and friends. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed trying new things, including ceramics and Pilates.
Travel was one of Betty’s greatest joys. She cherished trips with family and friends, especially to Turks and Caicos, and she always dreamed of traveling to Europe. Wherever she went, she brought warmth, curiosity, and appreciation for the people around her.
Betty is survived by her sister, Sharon Washburn, and her husband William, of Keene, Texas; her niece Lori Luce and her significant other David Archuleta; her nephew William Washburn and his spouse Jenna; and her great-nieces and great-nephews Noah Luce, Scarlett, Adelynn, Kanyn, and Aliyah. She is also survived by her constant and devoted companion, Milo, who held a special place in her heart.
Above all, Betty wanted to be remembered as someone who was caring and willing to help—and she lived that wish every day. Her love for family, friends, and pets, her gentle wisdom, and her ability to savor life’s quieter moments will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
