Betty graduated from Ada High School and went on to attend East Central State College. In 1953, she began an exciting new chapter by moving to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked for the Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission. When the Commission later relocated to Fort Worth, Texas, Betty made the move as well, establishing what would become her home until 2023.
Later in her career, Betty worked for her long-time friend Bob Cargill at Cargill Associates. During her tenure at Cargill Associates, she married Dr. Paul Stevens. They enjoyed eight wonderful years together until his death. Upon her retirement, she embraced life fully, devoting her time to the things she loved most.
An avid traveler, Betty explored destinations around the world and visited Israel multiple times. Her favorite place was New York City, where she made annual trips with her family and delighted in all the city had to offer—from Broadway shows and art museums to discovering new restaurants. Immersing herself in the culture and energy of the city brought her great joy, and New York City became her happy place.
Being the only daughter among four brothers, Betty was strong-willed and independent, never letting that distinction define her limits, and was a true trailblazer throughout her entire life. She was deeply active in her church community, where her faith and service were the most important part of her life. She loved her God, family, work and friends.
In 2023, Betty moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to family and made her home at Grace Pointe Independent Living. There, she continued to build friendships and enjoy her days with the same grace and enthusiasm that had always defined her.
Betty Hanson Stevens will be lovingly remembered for her deep faith, adventurous spirit, timeless style, and the joy she brought to those around her.
A memorial service for close friends and residents of Grace Pointe is scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday, December 23, followed by the interment at 2:00 pm at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Central University and The American Breast Cancer Foundation (abcf.org).
