Bill Maurice Laman was born May 6, 1932 in Henryetta, OK to Doc and Retha Bell Laman. He was the youngest boy in a family of 10. During Bill’s high school years his family moved to China Lake, CA. After graduating High School he was employed from 1950-53 as an atomic weapons component inspector at the Naval Ordnance Test Station. He was then drafted into the US Army and served from 1953-55 as a message center chief. Following his tenure in the Army he attended Oklahoma State University and in 1959 earned a bachelor’s degree. While at OSU Bill met Georgia Kerby and they married in 1959. Bill attended University of Central Oklahoma for his master’s degree. He taught in the OKC school system until 1970 when he accepted a position as a Chief of Training at the USPS Technical Training Center in Norman OK. He retired in 1990.
Bill enjoyed fishing, golfing, and dogs but most of all he enjoyed his grandkids. Papa spent countless hours pushing kids on swings, pulling them in wagons and playing hide and seek. OSU sports held a special spot in his weekend plans.
Bill is survived by Georgia, his wife of 59 years; a son, Kerry Laman, and daughter-in-law, Regina Laman, of Bentonville, AR; daughter, Gina Hunsberger, and son-in-law, Mike Hunsberger, of Lompoc, CA; grandchildren Jennifer Laman of Stillwater, OK; Grayson Laman of Fayetteville, AR; Meredith Laman of Bentonville, AR and Emma Hunsberger of Lompoc, CA. Bill was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 4 sisters and one granddaughter.
