A resident of Oklahoma City for most of her life, Carolyn was in the first graduating class at Northwest Classen in 1956. She attended Oklahoma City University where she studied Music and Voice and went on to become an accomplished pianist and lover of all genres of music. She was a lifetime member of St. Elijah Orthodox Church where she sang in the choir.
A woman of exquisite taste and style, she began her illustrious career in retail sales at her family’s business, American Mutual Company (AMC). She went on to serve as buyer and manager for Additions and then joined Chiarelli’s Petites. She found her true sales home at BC Clark Jewelers where she worked alongside the Clark family for 30 years. Her desk was at the front entrance where she greeted every customer, and they had the chance to be helped by her. A famous client included country superstar Blake Shelton, and she was pulled onstage to sing alongside Lionel Richie at a jewelry show in Las Vegas. Carolyn was gifted in her ways with people. For several years straight, Carolyn was the top Roberto Coin salesperson in the world. She was awarded seven trips to Italy and she and her husband Terry were wined and dined by Roberto and his team. He made her a one-of-a-kind gold medallion engraved with #1.
Her marriage to Terry L. Smith in 1962 was a love story for the ages. While they knew each other in high school, it was at AMC that their romance bloomed. They took that romance across state lines to Arkansas where they eloped and then honeymooned in Hot Springs. From that romance were born their daughters Stacey Smith Weddington in 1963 and Tyler Jo Smith in 1967. Carolyn and Terry were married for 54 years until his death in 2016. What an adventure they had. They launched their business, Walker Ten Package Store, where they had the finest selection of wines in Oklahoma City. They entertained side by side for Dinner à l’Art, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, their dear friends and family, and their childrens’ classmates. Each meal was a study in perfection from this accomplished cook. She was proud of her Lebanese heritage, and each meal she prepared, Lebanese or otherwise, was legendary. She was especially proud to be Sitti to her grandsons.
Witty, intelligent, and generous to a fault, Carolyn was a people magnet. She was the tiniest person with the biggest heart. She treated every person she met like family and opened her home with kindness and acceptance.
She was predeceased by her husband, Terry, her parents, Joe and Josephine, brother-in-law Harry Kouri Jr. and sister-in-law Lorna Dale Force.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Stacey, son-in-law Jerry Weddington and grandson, Alex; her daughter Tyler Jo, son-in-law Michael Fowler and grandson, Nicholas. She is also survived by her siblings, Joe Homsey, Jr. (Patsy), Beverly Kouri, Terri Lynn Laham (Mike). She is also survived by numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the medical teams at Baptist Integris Hospital and at Duncan Regional Hospital for the incredible care they provided to Carolyn these past few weeks, especially Dr. Andre May and Dr. Karley Koch who cared for Carolyn like their own. Janna Goble and Jill Feudale, from Duncan Home Health, supported her for years and were beloved. The family also appreciates the unwavering and loving attention of her caregivers, Marybeth and Hayley Owens, and Paris Lawrence and her little dog Fifi, who were Carolyn’s part-time roommates and full-time friends.
