Catherine June Rupp (nee Martin) was born on June 1, 1933, in Garvin, Minnesota. For the majority of her life, Catherine went by June. She was the fourth of seven children born to Ernest and Helen Martin.
She married LeRoy Richard ‘Dick’ Rupp on January 17, 1950 and they were married until Dick’s death on February 2, 2024. They had four children – Cherlyn, Debi, Les and Troy. She is survived by three children, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her surviving children, she is survived by her brother, Richard Martin (Betty), sister-in-law Shirley Martin and many nieces and nephews in Minnesota.
Dick and June loved to fish, whether it was in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Mustang Island in Texas or Alaska. They and their family built a lake house at Oklahoma’s Eufaula Lake.
Dick spent 23 years in the military, so Mom, for many years, was a stay-at-home mother who worked part-time. When we lived in Germany, Mom managed the daycare center on Hahn Air Base.
When Dad retired, the family moved from Louisiana to Oklahoma, at which time Mom went to work as a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base. Our mother was a sheet metal mechanic and worked on B-52’s, KC-135’s and E-3’s. A tough but cool job. She retired in 1997.
When Troy passed in 1997, Mom, who was very ‘crafty’, decided that we, as a family, should make Christmas crafts and all proceeds were donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). We did this for 20 years and raised over $100,000.00.
Mom could really do anything that she put her mind to. She was a master seamstress; she made both of her daughter’s wedding gowns. She learned how to reupholster furniture and she laid tiny tiles (2 inches by 2 inches) in a pattern in the entry hall and hall bathroom of their home…and they are still there.
June was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Helen Martin, her son Troy, and five of her six siblings.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 10401 West Reno Avenue, Suite 100, Oklahoma City, OK 73127-7152 or the charity of your choice.
