Cecil Leon Pearson passed peacefully September 21, 2022 surrounded by his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. He was born February 25, 1936 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma to Lela Irene Dix and John Henry Pearson. Cecil was the fourth of four children. The family moved to the Earlimart in the San Joaquin Valley of Southern California when he was six years old. The family eventually moved to Delano, California where Cecil met the love of his life, Pauline Sandlin. The two were married on February 17, 1961.
Cecil credited Pauline with saving his life because she introduced him to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 60 years. He worked in various congregations in California and Oklahoma, but his heart was truly in the work he did with the Prison Ministry in El Reno, OK. Cecil went to the prison every Thursday night for almost 20 years even getting his grandchildren involved by collecting and crushing cans along with the prisoners. The money they collected was given to various children’s homes around the state. Federal Correctional Institution awarded Cecil with Appreciation of Service in 2007, 2010, 2011 and Volunteer of the year in 2014.
He and Pauline went on to have four children and six grandchildren who he supported by working for Caltrans for almost 30 years. The state roads and highways in the desert around Palm Springs, CA were the smoothest, most well-kept roads in the state thanks to Cecil’s hard work and dedication.
After God, family, and work, Cecil’s love was for the game of baseball. He played, coached, and was a lifelong fan of the LA Dodgers. He was a catcher and first baseman but he was the best in the box with a bat in his hand. Cecil always said he had to hit a home run just to get to first base because he never could fun very fast. He passed his love of the game to all his children and grandchildren.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, J.H. Pearson and Samuel Eli Pearson, sister, Geraldine Parrott, and grandson, Cody Austin Pearson.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Phyllis Pauline Pearson of Oklahoma City, OK, children, Debra Paige Pearson of Austin, TX, Cecil Todd Pearson of Austin, TX, Paul David Pearson, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kaycee Lynn Pearson of Oklahoma City, OK, grandchildren, Cydney Morgan Pearson of Oklahoma City, OK, Kaitlyn Irene Pearson of Austin, TX, Liam John McCune of Oklahoma City, OK, Jacob Patrick Pearson of Oklahoma City, OK, Braden Cecil Pearson of Oklahoma City, OK and his precious fur baby Eagon.
Services for Cecil will be Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
