Charles Henry Blakley

February 21, 1922November 24, 2013

Charles H. Blakley peacefully departed this life on November 24, 2013. He was born February 21, 1922 to Kenneth Hoyt and Pearl Theresa Blakley of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Charles graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and attended Blackwood Business College where he learned bookkeeping. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard-Navy during World War II. He served in the South Pacific, including support for General MacArthur’s return to the Philippines and the reconstruction of Nagasaki, Japan after the end of the War. While on leave in 1943, he married his loving and dear wife of 65 years, Alphadene Blakley. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a B.S. Degree in Geology. For several decades, he worked in the oil and gas reporting industry throughout Oklahoma. After his retirement, he later dabbled in real estate and oil and gas land work but mostly enjoyed traveling with Alphadene, attending church functions and hosting family gatherings. In the last few years, he enjoyed his new and old friends at the Statesman Club, where he was elected to the Residence Council. Charles had one passion throughout his life – his Christian faith. This faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ were the cornerstone of his life. He acted on his faith everyday and enjoyed many bible studies, Sunday school classes, and churches for many decades. He was preceded in death by his wife and is survived by his three children, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren: son Larry A. Blakley of Nashville, his wife Shirley and their daughter Lauren; daughter Cathy Blakley of Oklahoma City, her daughters Traci Ketchum, husband Tom and children Tra, Ryland and Olivia of Alex; Kimberly Fuller of Alex, and Magen Stewart and her husband Grant and son Adam of Dallas; and, son Kenneth H. Blakley of Oklahoma City and his wife Donna and their daughters Mary Katherine and Caroline. Charles’s big smile and positive attitude will be missed by his family and the many friends and others he touched during his long and beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Visitation: Tuesday, November 26 at Hahn Cook/Street and Draper in Oklahoma City; Services will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Hahn Cook, preceded by a private family internment.

We recently learned of the passing of one of the dearest men we have ever known. Bro Blakley was such a friendly man and his Godly example affected all that surrounded him. We are excited to know he awaits all of us who long to be with him in Heaven. Our thoughts and love to the family.

What a wonderful legacy and heritage Charles Blakley has left us all. I warmly remember the kindness and generosity that Mr. and Mrs. Blakley showed to me during my freshman year at OU with Kenny, and am inspired by the testimony of his commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus. "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Mr. & Mrs. Blakley allowed me into their home on Chaucer many, many times while I was growing up and they were very kind to me. They were the kind of parents everyone wanted. They were active in football games, school gatherings and always involved with the church. He was a kind, gentle soul and was always so proud of his family and loved the family gatherings. Even though your Thanksgiving crowd may be smaller this year just know that he is rejoicing in seeing his bride, Alphadene, again and sitting at the Lord's table, a spot he certainly earned in this life. God be with all the family and rejoice in a life well lived. He set the bar high and led by example his entire life and a part of that legacy lives on today. I am thankful for having known Mr. Blakley and the impression he made on me so many years ago. God be with each of you today.

We are sharing lots of memories of the Blakley family today and remembering many fun times through The Village "growing up - raising kids" times, family events at Andrew Johnson, as well as some more recent. Ed and Billie enjoyed watching the OU--Texas game with Charlie in his room at Tuscany! We are thankful to have known both he and Alphadene for so many years. Keeping your family in our thoughts and prayers.
