Christopher “Chris” Thomas Kenney, age 58, passed away on June 10, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Chris was born on June 1, 1968, in Oklahoma City to Thomas Edward Kenney and Joan Kent Kenney. A lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, Chris attended Christ the King Catholic School and Bishop McGuinness High School before continuing his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he later earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Oklahoma School of Law.
An accomplished legal executive with extensive experience in the insurance sector, Chris served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at American Fidelity and was with the company for more than 20 years. His early legal career was distinguished by dedicated service with the Oklahoma Insurance Department, providing him with a foundation of deep regulatory insights and a comprehensive understanding of the industry from both a corporate and compliance perspective. As an insurance executive at the insurance department, he then brought his legal acumen to Reserve National Insurance Company, where he worked with his father-in-law Roger Cole, as a key member of the legal team before joining American Fidelity.
In the Oklahoma City business and civic community, Chris served on multiple boards and was a proud member of Leadership Oklahoma, Leadership Oklahoma City, Salvation Army, Petroleum Club, Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, and Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Known for his keen mind, witty personality, and dedication to everything he loved, he was a true Oklahoman who consistently gave back to his community.
Chris lived life with an infectious laugh and an open heart. He was a friend to everyone he met and truly never met a stranger. He loved people deeply, possessed an extraordinary memory for sports statistics, and frequently delighted friends with his favorite movie quotes. An avid sports fan, Chris passionately cheered on the OU Sooners, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, National Finals Rodeo, and Oklahoma City Thunder. His perfect day was spent on the golf course, sharing a steak at dinner with friends, cheering on his children in their adventures, watching the sunset, and socializing with his closest friends and family at the end of the day. Above all, Chris was hardworking, worshipped God, and remained deeply committed to his faith, his Irish heritage, and Catholicism.
Chris is survived by his wife Marcy Cole Kenney, his daughter, Mackenzie Ann Kenney, and his son Andrew Roger Kenney, all of Oklahoma City; his sister Diane and her husband Jon Mombaini, nephew Blake Stacy and wife Courtney, and a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss his vibrant presence. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Joan and Tom Kenney.
