

Gran Gran to her grandchildren and great grandchildren was born October 15, 1916 in Vian, OK to Jay Gould and Bertha Mae Johnson Moore. Darlene graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in journalism. November 23, 1940 Darlene married Roy Wallace Hammond. After the war they moved to Duncan, OK where Roy worked for Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Co. and their son, Wallace, was born. They later moved to Oklahoma City and their daughter, Harriet, was born.
While raising their family, Darlene was active in her children’s activities; she was Cub Scout leader for Wally and Blue Bird leader for Harriet, home room mother and always willing to help. She was a volunteer at Baptist Hospital and was active at her church home, Central Presbyterian Church, where she has been a member for over 50 years. After Roy died in 1966, she began a 20 year employment at the Rotary Club. She travelled extensively with her sister, Helen, all over the United States and Europe. They affectionately became the dynamic duo, “Gran Gran and Sissie”. They were the chief baby sitters for Darlene’s grandchildren and loved travelling to visit Wally and his family wherever they were living. Darlene loved life and truly never met a stranger. She lived a long and full life; she will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her independence and her positive outlook on life.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy, and two sisters, Helen Gould Moore and Virginia Morozuk, and son-in-law, Tom Weirich. She is survived by he son, Wallace Moore Hammond and his wife, Shari; her daughter, Harriet Weirich; her grandchildren, Brock Hammond, Holly Hammond, Blair Hader and her husband, Jeremy, Dan Weirich and his wife, Stephany, Kent Weirich and his wife, Alexi, Phillip Weirich and his wife, Krista, and nephew, John Morozuk. Gran Gran loved her grandchildren, Addie and Mason Hader, Carter Hammond, Anna Weirich and Baby Weirich to be born in July, 2011.
Her family will be forever grateful for the loving care given to Darlene by The Wellington; loving caregivers, Shelia McCoy, Cardelia McCoy, Elaine Johnson, Tricia Haley and Shirley Pollard; Hospice care by Randi and Michelle. Celebration of her life will be Friday, March 25 at 2:00pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 50th and N. May Avenue. Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 5101 N. May Avenue or Hospice of Oklahoma County, 4334 NW Expressway.
