Boyd Roby was born at Norman Regional Hospital on September 19, 1967, to Johnny Gordon Roby Sr. and Willie Nadawah Roby, with brothers Johnny Jr. and Joe, and sister Joni. Growing up in southwest Oklahoma City, he was actively involved in Cub Scouts, football, baseball, and most notably table tennis. Boyd was incredibly passionate about the sport in his youth and throughout his life, traveling from tournament to tournament, even competing at the national level.
Boyd was a graduate of U.S. Grant High School, where he played football and baseball. From there, he went to the University of Oklahoma, where he studied political science and public administration, joined Sigma Phi Epsilon, and met the love of his life, Jami.
Jami and Boyd married on April 4, 1992, and moved to Midtown Oklahoma City, where they began their family. They welcomed their first son, Davis Gardner Roby, in 2001, followed by the birth of their second son, Fischer Lee Roby, in 2006.
Boyd was a kind, gentle, and present father. He stopped at nothing to be there for his children. His boys attended Crossings Christian School, where he remained as active as they were. Boyd served as a soccer, football, and basketball coach. He was a Cubmaster and assistant scoutmaster. This was where Boyd truly shined. He was a person’s person. He loved being around people and the school community Crossings provided.
He could light up a room like no one else, putting smiles on people’s faces and forging everlasting memories just by being around. He truly could make friends with anyone and everyone.
He taught his children the importance of hard work, accountability, humility, and above all else, how important it is to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Dad, Mom’s heart and our hearts are so heavy with our loss. You were so universally loved by anyone blessed to meet and know you. We receive comfort in knowing that you were received by Grandma, Grandpa, and our Heavenly Father. We are heartbroken that there will be things in life you may not be physically present for; however, we are so thankful for all that you were. We will continue your legacy of loving people, caring for them, and always being someone to count on. We’re reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” We know you are at rest now and look forward to the day we can see you again.
Boyd passed into the care of the Lord in his home on December 4, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Gordon Roby Sr.; his mother, Willie Nadawah Roby; and two children.
