Deidre Jo Ann Smith, 54, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2021, in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She was born on April 28, 1967, in Decatur, Alabama. Deidre was a classic introvert who adored animals and loved people with good hearts. Like an animal herself, she could often sniff out the good and the bad in people.
Deidre attended Midwest City High School and Rose State College. For most of her career, she was a parimutuel teller at Remington Park, a job where she made lots of friends, including jockeys, betters, coworkers and more. Her favorite hobbies and past times were watching sci-fi and fantasy movies and TV shows and reading books, as she was an avid reader. More than anything, she loved watching her grandsons, Ben and Oliver, whom she doted on, and spending time with her daughter, Kate. In fact, Deidre’s greatest moments and proudest achievements were when she gave birth to Kate and then when Kate gave birth to Ben and Oliver.
Deidre believed in God and prayed for her loved ones often. She volunteered for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, an activity she began with her mom and continued sometimes with her sister, Amy. A talented writer, Deidre received awards for both her creative writing and academics. Helping her little sister often with her schoolwork, Deidre was Amy’s first editor.
Deidre is preceded in death by her mother, Kathy J. (Clonts) Krawiecki; stepdad, Robert Krawiecki; and her grandparents, Ben, Jean, Frank and Elizabeth, and her beloved “Aunt” Linda.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Bunts; sister Amy L. Welch; grandsons, Benjamin Alexander and Oliver Rhys; as well as many friends, cousins, and other loved ones, as well as her good friend and ex-husband Bill.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Oklahoma Humane Society in Deidre's name.
