Dezie L. Brown, 71, of Edmond died at home on April 18, 2020. He was born in Lyons, Georgia to Minnie Lee (Snow) and Monroe Brown. An unhappy childhood caused him to leave home at 16. He worked at odd jobs until he was old enough to join the Navy as a “Kiddy Cruiser”.
At age 21, he left the Navy and went to work for the state of Georgia in Savannah. After a few years, he went to work for General Motors in Atlanta. In Atlanta, he enjoyed coaching a little league team.
In 1978, he came to Oklahoma City to the General Motors plant here. There he met and married Larae (Bolton). A son was born to that union in 1982.
After some time as a maintenance supervisor at G.M., he was bit by the self-employment bug. Over the next few years, the couple bought 2 convenience stores, a motel and a farm – all in Asher, Oklahoma. He enjoyed farming and the people he met through the stores.
Dezie loved to travel. He’d visited all 50 states as well as most continents. Because of his size, he’d often bump up to first class. He enjoyed the “fine things” in life – Larae enjoyed the empty seat next to her.
Dezie was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Wanda and Linda.
He is survived by his wife, Larae; Joshua, the son he was so proud of and his family, Amy and Miriam; two step-daughters: Myklee and husband Leo and Sara and husband Jeff; 2 granddaughters: Lila and Camryn; sisters: Anita and Shirley; brother, Gary; and uncles: Orben and Aulden.
A small, 10-person graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, 2 miles south of Jones on Hiwassee. A memorial reception will be held at the home.
Dezie was a good, honest man who loved his family. The world is a bit darker for his absence.
Memorial donations may be made in Dezie’s honor to the America
