Born on October 29, 1935, in Maud, Oklahoma, Dolores was the daughter of Burl Browne Cook and Zula Mae Ragland Cook. She was born at home, attended by a midwife, during the midst of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. Dolores grew up on the Dixie Lease outside of Wewoka, Oklahoma, where her family endured hard times but were fortunate, as both of her parents had steady work. Her father, Burl, was the foreman of the Dixie Lease refinery plant owned by Phillips 66.
Dolores attended Wewoka Public Schools, where she was joined by her brothers, Gene and Kenneth Cook, and her beloved sister, Kathryn Cook Coffman.
On February 25, 1953, Dolores married Victor Pryor, and together they raised four children: Vicki, Kenny, Dallas, and Guy. Dolores often said that the best time of her life was spent raising her children, and she poured all her love and energy into their upbringing. And it took a lot of energy to keep up with Dallas and Kenny. Her family grew over the years, as her children brought beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren into her life. Above all, Dolores’s greatest joy was her family.
A gifted and creative woman, Dolores was an exceptional seamstress who made beautiful clothes for her children while they were growing up, often bragging of the ones she made for Vicki. She was also skilled in many arts and crafts, including needlepoint, crocheting, and embroidery. In addition, her paintings were admired by those who saw them. Her artistic talents were only surpassed by the warmth and kindness she shared with everyone around her.
Dolores had a remarkable way of making everyone she met feel like they were her favorite person. Her infectious humor and warm presence lit up every room she entered. Her deep love for her family and friends was evident in all that she did, and she will be remembered for the joy she brought to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Dolores was preceded in death by her father, Burl Browne Cook, mother, Zula Mae Cook, brother, Gene Cook and son, Dallas Pryor.
