Don died peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma. Don was born April 2, 1935, in Oklahoma City to Don and Ruth Nicholson. Don attended Classen High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1962 with his Bachelor’s in Business Administration, then became a Certified Public Accountant. He also graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 1965. Don married Suzy Eagleton on November 24, 1960, and, together, they had three children; Kirk, Kent and Debra.
He had a successful law practice in Oklahoma City, originally partnering with Suzy’s father, James Eagleton. He was most proud of his contribution to founding Oklahoma Lawyers for Children, a non-profit organization providing legal representation to abused and neglected children in Oklahoma County.
Don spent his weekdays practicing law, but on the weekends he loved spending his time on his land in Chandler, OK, with his cattle and horses. He could never get enough of the farm and brought many horses home to our backyard in Norman. Over the years, he and his whole family built many memories vacationing in Crested Butte, CO. Suzy and Don would bring horses in the fall and ride the trails through the aspens with a dog following behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ruth Nicholson, his parents-in-law, James and Ruby Eagleton, his brothers-in-law, Jim and Bobby Eagleton, and his wife Suzy Nicholson.
Surviving are his children, Kirk Nicholson, Kent Nicholson and wife Kayla, Debra Nicholson and husband Jeff, five grandchildren, Max Nicholson and wife Nora, Sam Nicholson and wife Katie, Nicholson (Nick) Keller, Kort Nicholson, and Boden Scheurich, and a great grandchild, Remi Nicholson.
He is also survived by his brother, Jim Nicholson, sister-in-law, Susie Nicholson, and their children, Michael Anne Siscoe, and Matt Nicholson, and their grandchildren, Madylan, Madison, Kendon, Carly and Sarah.
A memorial service for Don will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
