

Raised in Oklahoma City, he graduated from Putnam City High School in 1977. He attended Oklahoma State University College of Arts and Science and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1981. Doug was an avid fan of OSU Cowboys Football. “Go Pokes!” After graduating, Doug worked as a photographer at the Lawton Morning Press and later at the Edmond Sun. He went on to receive an associate’s degree in applied science at Rose State College in 1988. Upon graduation, he worked as a medical lab histologic technician at OU Medical Center for 30 years until his retirement.
Doug was passionate about photography and his collection of DC and Marvel comic books, action figures, and collectible figurines. He was also an ardent reader which inspired his nephews' enthusiasm for reading. While residing at St. Ann’s Skilled Nursing Home, Doug enjoyed playing bingo and dominoes with his friends, as well as a variety of other activities. Although Doug never had any children of his own, he was a beloved uncle to his four nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer G. and Margery Joyce Carpenter, his grandmother, Mamie Rowden, and his younger brother, Michael Carpenter.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Veronica Carpenter of Edmond, OK, and his four nephews David and Jason Carpenter of Oklahoma City, Shawn Carpenter and his partner Chrys Martinez of Rialto, CA, and Jacob Carpenter of Edmond, OK.
A celebration of life for Douglas will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
