Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, on December 6th, 1929, he grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree at SMU where he met our mother. Later, Dad earned his Master’s at UT in geology. He would next enlist in the Naval Officer Candidate School and become a Junior Communications Officer in the Korean War stationed in the Philippines.
Upon his honorable discharge, Dad became a geologist for Conoco joining his father, brother and uncle in the oil business. Moving to Ardmore, Oklahoma, in 1958, Dad became a prolific oil & gas finder. We relocated to Oklahoma City in 1960 to further pursue his career.
Our Mom passed in August, 1998 and Dad later married Cynthia Cunningham. They enjoyed a very deep fun love and life together.
Our Dad was a good man with a kind heart. He cared and was passionate about our country. He loved his wife deeply, his children fiercely, his parents, brother, extended family passionately and grandkids and great grandkids tremendously. Dad is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his kids – Randy Colton and wife Mary, and Sheryl Colton; his grandkids – Graham (Betsy), Garrett (Christine), Jackson Beaman and Greer Colton; his brother, Clark Colton (Dottie); 4 great grandchildren and his nieces and a nephew.
He was not a saint nor was he perfect -he was just our Dad.
Our Dad was kind and giving and possessed a strong opinion as to the state of our country-he was just our Dad.
Our Dad loved our mom and our step mom completely- he was just our Dad.
Our Dad took great care of our family and had one single goal——to help my sister and me navigate this life- he was just our Dad.
Our Dad gave us over 60 years of love and support- he was just our Dad.
Dad was just our Dad and for us, that was more than enough.
Rest Pop. In the wink of an eye we will be together again. You did it and we could not be more proud of you.
We love you Dad and always will-
To Be Continued Pop
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Stephenson Cancer Institute or to OMRF. A celebration of Dad’s life will be planned for next month.
