Born in Oklahoma City, Earl was the son of Luther and Bonnie (Warren) Edwards. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School, where he excelled in varsity football, basketball, and golf. He continued his education at Central State University before beginning a distinguished career with F.W. Dodge/McGraw-Hill, where he worked until his retirement.
Earl shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Deanna DeYarmett Edwards, who preceded him in death. Together they built a life centered on family, faithfulness, and lasting friendships.
An avid golfer, Earl loved the game and especially enjoyed road trips with his cousin, Tom Wilson, playing courses across the United States. Whether on the golf course, around the grill preparing one of his legendary steaks, or gathered with family and friends, Earl had a gift for making people feel welcome. He was known for his generosity, his quick wit, and his ability to tell a great story. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose love for his family was the foundation of his life.
Earl is survived by his son, Scott Edwards and his wife, LouAnn, of Houston, Texas; his son, David Edwards, of Edmond, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Bryan Edwards of Houston, Texas, and Julia Edwards of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his brother, Donnie Edwards and his wife, Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Earl’s life will be held at his home on Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Tee. firstteemetokc.org
