As the youngest of twelve siblings, family was everything to Ed. He was raised with love in Granite, Oklahoma where he graduated in the class of 1969. He quickly sought out other adventures during that time of his life that included competitive bull riding, boxing, and landscape photography.
Ed joined the army in 1969 where he served 2 years at Fort Hood. After his time in the U.S. Army, he eventually began his career in the oilfield where he traveled the world including China, Sudan, Russia, Africa, and South America.
He became a father when his son Gary Grady was born in 1976. Being a father was one of his proudest accomplishments and greatest joys. Ed moved back to his home state of Oklahoma in 2002 to marry the love of his life, Sharon. Together, they built a life based on love, faith, and family. Ed was known to all his grandkids and great grands as “Pops.” He would never say no to pulling them in the wagon, fishing in the pond, cannonball wave pools, or making a lumberjack breakfast that smelled up the whole house.
Ed loved watching any sporting event, but especially OU and Dallas Cowboys football. He also enjoyed attending the prison rodeo as well as Andy Griffith and John Wayne marathons with his dog Bear. One of his favorite annual events was the Grady Family Reunion where his competitive streak always came out while playing dominoes and card games. He loved to sing and play guitar, some of his favorites were classic country and western songs and old hymns.
Ed is preceded in death by his 10 siblings. He leaves behind a loving legacy including his wife, sister, kids, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grands, all of whom carry forward his grit, humor, and love of Johnny Cash.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 23 at 11:00, at Destiny Christian 3801 SE 29th St Del City, OK. Ed was not a “dress up” kind of guy, so to honor his spirit and beloved team, please wear your favorite OU t-shirt (if you have one).
