

Elliott Raymond Hale was born in Bernardston, Mass, on April 21, 1930. He graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in 1949 and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1954.
He began his career working for Shell Oil in Wood River, IL, and it was here that he met his wife of 61 years, Betty Cox. They married on Dec. 26, 1955, in Alton, IL, while he was on leave serving in the Army. The family moved west to the Mojave desert town of Trona, CA. in 1964. The town’s factory and mining operations owned by Kerr-McGee Chemical was where Elliott held a variety of positions before becoming Plant Manager and later Director of Engineering Services. Elliott and Betty moved to Oklahoma City in 1984 where Elliott worked until 1991 when he retired from Kerr-McGee. He also worked a couple of years at Benham (OKC). Elliott flew a private plane, loved tennis, reading, and exploring the mountains and canyons of his beloved desert.
He is survived by his wife Betty, son Michael and his wife Kathy, daughter Laurie, grandson Daniel and his wife Alex, granddaughter April and her husband Steve, granddaughter Alma, and great-grandchildren Isabel and Asher.
A viewing is scheduled for Monday, July 10 at 1pm, with a service at 2pm, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway, OKC, (405)721-3182.
