Florine Lock Cunningham, 陆晓茹, was born kicking in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 21, 2020. She lived every day to the fullest, prepared with a purse full of love to share: crackers, band-aids, candy, pens, and checklists for any occasion.
She loved singing, dancing, and creating worlds with her twin sister and best friend Claude. Clo and Flo made people smile in parks, playgrounds, museums, festivals, and sidewalks everywhere. She loved learning to read and write with her friends and teachers at First Presbyterian School. With classmates and neighbors, she brought people together with joy and play.
She loved nails and make-up with her big sister idols, Jackie and Mimi. She loved making sandcastles and picking seashells with her cousin Jase. She loved celebrating every occasion from Lunar New Year to the Fourth of July with Uncle Channara, Aunt Lyndsay, Liam and Gemma. She loved playing bottle cap cafe and walking on hot lava beach roads with Uncle Robert, listening to music with Aunt Annie and Uncle Dave, and seeking refuge from Uncle James’ beard with Aunt Paige and Winnie. She loved climbing through the caves and wandering the hills of southern France with her Aunt Yvette. With family and friends, Flo helped us find beauty all around us.
She loved warm meals of rice and nourishing soup with her Po Po. She loved digging in the dirt with her Nai Nai and Pop Pop to save worms, roly polys, and ladybugs. She aced every academic challenge sheet Pop Pop could create. She loved running through the house at full speed to Nai Nai, knowing that Nai Nai would stop the world to hug and kiss her. With the protection of her grandparents, she approached the world with the cutest confidence.
She loved being on her Mommy’s lap for a good book, a good movie, and a good tummy tickle. Under the tutelage of her Mommy, Flo was becoming fluent in French and Mandarin and could almost count to 100 in three languages. She loved bike rides under the full moon with her Daddy, cruising around Mesta Park looking at Halloween houses. They often rode across OKC, frequenting the library, swimming at the YMCA, and eating mulberries straight from the tree. With the limitless love of her parents, Flo actually made the world a better place, “actually.”
