Gail graduated from Northeast High School in 1964, and she attended Central State University (now known as University of Central Oklahoma) in 1966. As a life-long resident of Oklahoma, Gail moved around the state and briefly lived in San Diego, California from 1967-1969.
She ran a home day care from 1977-2015, where she met and fell in love with all of the kids she kept. Though she treated those children as her own, her proudest accomplishment was raising her boys Marc and Craig. Her family was most important to her. She married Michael R. Montgomery in 1966 and then remarried the love of her life, Larry Thomas Belcher, on June 1, 2001, and they were married for fourteen years before Larry passed in January 2015.
Gail had an amazing sense of humor; she laughed at everything, but especially sarcastic jokes told by her family and friends. She was known for her beautiful smile and her willingness to help others. She had the ability to drop everything to assist those in need. Her compassion and enthusiasm to go the extra mile for those around her is a quality her family always admired about her.
She loved listening to artists like Lionel Ritchie, the Beach Boys, and the Toys. Gail was a member of the Purple Hat Society and the Home Daycare Association for many years, and she was also a devoted member to LifeChurch in Oklahoma City.
Gail loved hanging out at Lake Eufaula, fishing and catching anything that bites. She would spend days in Hallett watching Craig’s motorcycle races, although she was always too nervous to watch for very long. One of her favorite things was attending high school football games to support her grandson Zac march in the band on Friday nights. In September, she always gets excited to go to the Oklahoma State Fair and would go with anyone who extended an invitation. She also loved spending an evening with friends to watch a Thunder basketball game. When she could, she enjoyed driving around with her friends going to various garage and estate sales. Movie nights with her son Marc and his wife Jenny were her favorite! Getting time to make memories with them, along with a good meal and some popcorn would bring her joy without fail.
Gail’s light and love will continue to shine through those she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Belcher, parents Basil E. Sharp and Betty M. Glaze, and brothers Phil and Ken Sharp and sister Kelly Kay (Sharp) Winn. She will be remembered in life by her sons Marc Alan Montgomery and wife Jennifer of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, Jason Craig Montgomery of Richardson, Texas, sister-in-law Evelyn Sharp of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and grandson Zac Montgomery of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and her cats Squeaky and Katie.
A memorial service for Gail will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Following the memorial service will be a committal service at 3:00 PM at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
