

Gary Kuschnereit, better known as "Mr. K", passed away on June 3rd, 2026 in Midwest City, OK. He was born on April 19th, 1950 to John and Bessie Kuschnereit in Oklahoma City, OK. Gary graduated from Midwest City High School in Midwest City, OK, in 1968. He then attended St. John' s College in Winfield, Kansas receiving an Associate of Arts Degree in 1970. Subsequently he received a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree, and Lutheran Teacher Diploma from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, in 1972. When called to teach at First Lutheran School in Burbank, California, he served as teacher, principal, youth director and supply
organist. Additionally he served as board secretary for the Lutheran High School Association for Los Angeles, California. During his time in California, Gary received his Master of Arts Degree
from California State University of Northridge, California, in 1980. In 1987 he received and accepted a Call from The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Midwest City, OK, where he taught and served as principal, supply organist, was active in choir and was the Oklahoma District Representative for National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. While fulfilling those duties, Gary attended Central State University, Edmond, OK where he received a Master of Education Degree in 1992. After a brief period of teaching and serving as principal for Trinity Lutheran School in Noman, OK, in 1999 Gary returned to his previous duties again at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. When he retired in 2017, he was honored by the LCMS Oklahoma District as Administrator of the Year. He continued to serve gratis as principal for two more years until health prevented him from serving. Mr. K was passionate about sharing the word of God, his Lutheran faith, his family, church family
and life in general. His special interests include teaching, music, bible study, reading, writing, genealogy and especially cooking and gardening which he enjoyed sharing with everyone. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Kuschnereit, and his brother Dale Kuschnereit. He is survived by his sister Christie Douglas and her spouse Carl Douglas, many cousins across the United States and Germany, and his fur babies Speed Bump and Savannah.
In lieu of flowers, Gary would wish and the family asks you make a donation to Good Shepherd Lutheran School, 700 N. fir Depot, Midwest City, Oklahoma, 73110.
Visitation will be held at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141, US, on June 10, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - LCMS, 700 N Air Depot Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73110, US, on June 12, 2026, at 10:00 am.
