Thank you for joining us to celebrate the life, love, and Godly works of Gary Lynn Robertson: husband to one, father to three, and “Pops” to all. Gary was called home to our Creator on February 8, 2025.
Gary was born August 25, 1948, in Oklahoma City, to James and Helen Robertson, a salesman and a switchboard operator. Gary would spend much of a simple yet happy childhood in a three-bedroom craftsman in Nicoma Park with four other siblings, after Helen’s marriage to E.M. Pearson brought their families together. In school, where Gary preferred not to be, he excelled at woodworking and sports.
At age 17, Gary met his future first wife and mother of his two daughters. A true Oklahoman, he would raise those daughters in the ways of Jesus, softball, and country music. In his teens, he began a singing career, later touring Oklahoma with his gospel group, the Sooner State Boys.
Gary met the love of his life, Donna, in 1980. They would marry in 1981, with Gary gaining a son and Donna gaining two daughters, and ‘til death would they part, after nearly 44 happy years.
Gary tried on a number of hats before finding his life’s calling as the proprietor and star burger flipper of a food truck, Robertson’s Cookin’ Now!, for over three decades. Any one of Gary’s family, friends, or neighbors can attest to his skills as a cook, as Gary was not stingy with his food.
Along with his vocal and culinary abilities, Gary was an adept craftsman who built many sturdy, well-made, and often beautiful structures and furnishings. A deeply religious man, Gary was active in his church and sang the gospel at every opportunity – many of these songs he wrote himself. He was generous with his handyman skills, words of encouragement, and stories. His presence was larger-than-life, and he filled every room he entered with his warm personality. It’s entirely possible he never met a stranger.
Gary will one day be joined in heaven by his wife, Donna; his eldest daughter, Jami; grandchildren Cheyenne, Jamison, Katie Belle, and Elora; his youngest daughter, Melissa, and husband Richard; as well as his son, John, and wife, Angie; grandchildren Makenzie, Makaila, Brixon, and Liberty; two great-grandchildren, Stella and Jameson; his other mother, Martha; and six siblings. When you get to heaven, be sure to order the WOW! Nachos – if they weren’t there before, they surely are now.
