

George W. Brewer, Sr. and Mamie Brewer in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from
Lubbock High School in 1946 where he received All-State honors in both football and
track. He attended Texas Tech University for a semester before transferring to the
University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship. George played halfback under the
guidance of legendary coach Bud Wilkinson from 1946-1949. While at OU he was a
member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and received a B.S. degree in Business/Finance in
January of 1951.
George served in the Korean War serving as Air Provost Marshal at Perrin Air Force
Base in Sherman, Texas and later in Korea. Upon his return to Oklahoma City he
went to work for Conoco Oil Co. in the exploration and production department and was
then transferred to Wichita, Ks. In 1955, he joined Monsanto Chemical Co. before
moving to Liberal, Kansas where he formed a partnership with the district geologist to
start an independent exploration and production Co, Thomas and Brewer. While in
Liberal, George served as Vice-President of the independent Oil and Gas Association.
He was also President of the Liberal Board of Education. In 1969, he sold his interest in
Thomas and Brewer and returned to Oklahoma City, consulting in the oil and gas
business. George served on the Board of Quail Creek Golf and Country Club and the
Board of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College
Hall of Fame. He was a member of the OU Football Letterman's Association and the
Varsity "O" Club. George was an active member of All Souls’ Episcopal church for 45
years. He loved playing golf and was a licensed pilot and dearly loved flying.
George enjoyed telling jokes and had a wonderful sense of humor. His quick wit and
charm will truly be missed by his loving family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mamie Brewer and
brother, Robert Brewer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara and his three
daughters; Pam Jaax and husband, Mike of Kansas City, Debbie McCord and husband,
Ron, and Becky Brewer, all of Oklahoma City. George is also survived by 7
grandchildren: Allyson Jaax of Kansas City, Grant Jaax and wife, Jennifer of Atlanta,
Kyle McCord and wife, Sarah, of Oklahoma City, Bennett McCord of Los Angeles,
Robert Howl and wife, Micki, of Dallas, Carly Frost and husband, Max, of Oklahoma City
and Kelly Howl, of Dallas. George is also survived by his brother Charles Brewer and
wife, Sandra of Dallas and sister-in-law, Carol Soule of Oklahoma City, as well as 5
great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at All Souls’ Episcopal church at 2:00 p.m. Friday,
July 25. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Souls’ Episcopal Church or
Eden Care Homes.
