George Wesley Duncan, Sr, 74, of Harrah, Oklahoma passed away January 12, 2015. George was born May 3, 1940 in Shinnston, West Virginia. He was the son of Howard Wesley and Pearl (Bunnell) Duncan. On February 14, 1978, George married the love of his life, Marjorie Jean Hunt at City Hall in Lorain, Ohio by the mayor. They were married for 36 wonderful, loving years. Before George turned 17, he wanted to enlist in the Army. His dad signed the papers so he could follow his dream. While serving in the Army in 1965, he was in the 82nd Airborne and served in Germany. He was bound for Vietnam when there was an uprising in the Dominican Republic. They were trying to keep enemy vessels out. George had been with some of the brass and was trained to use one of the big guns. He was told where to aim his gun at a ship, so he aimed, fired and this little 120 pound guy blew it up. The rest is history. After telling this story to his niece, Paula, she asked how it made him feel. George simply said, “I was just doing my job.” He was such a humble man. While in the Army, George received his GED and made the rank of Sergeant. He was proudly served his country for 10 years until July 31, 1967. George worked for US Steel for approximately 10 years; security for Cleveland Metro Security for 5 years; and building maintenance at Rockwell International for 15 years. He retired in 2006. George is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie Jean Duncan, of the home; 4 brothers, Bill Duncan of Lorain, OH, Arlie Duncan and wife Doe of Lorain, OH, Walter Duncan and wife Karen of Amherst, OH, and James Duncan and wife Mary of Cleveland, OH; two sons, George Wesley Duncan, Jr. and wife Becky of Wickliffe, OH, and Samuel David Duncan and fiancé Debbie Swaney of Lorain, OH; grandchildren, Samantha Vernon and husband Paul of Independence, OH, Jessie Davis and husband Brian of Brunswick, OH, and Sean Duncan of Brunswick, OH; great grandchildren, Bradley Davis, Quinne Vernon, Liam Vernon and Molly Noel Gasper; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Charlene Smith; brother-in-law Phillip Garrett and wife Sharon; and special friends, Philip and Dorothy Street and Jim and Cathy Flick.
