

George Etta Killingsworth Emerson passed away on May 15, 2011. She was born August 18, 1933, in Seminole, Oklahoma, the last of six children to George and Mary Etta Killingsworth. She graduated from Seminole High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, she met Marvin Emerson and they married in 1954. George Etta completed her education at East Central State University in Ada receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1956. She taught school for many years in Coalgate, Fitzhugh, Oklahoma City and Putnam City. She was a devoted mother, raising her children in Oklahoma City, and always a ready parent volunteer in their activities. When her children were older she worked for Montgomery Wards and Hertz Data Center. George Etta had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed family gatherings, travel, and was an avid OU fan. George Etta was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law John and NormaJean Killingsworth of Shawnee, and sister, Margaret Burns of Nashville, Tenn, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law Caroline and Brooks Mitchell of Oklahoma City, and son and daughter-in-law George and Dianne Emerson of Edmond, and six grandchildren, whom she adored: Charlotte, Laura, Lauren, Rebecca, James and Brian. Viewing will be held at the funeral home Thursday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services are Saturday, May 21, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with graveside services at 4:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma.
