13 September 1931 – 2 December 2018
Gloria Lynn Baker was born the second daughter to Marion DeVynn Baker and Francis Harriet Folsom in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of a railroad engineer and homemaker. In Columbus, Gloria early in life wed Robert Lowell Burke and bore a daughter after finishing high school followed by her first son. In 1961 the young family moved to Southern California where her second son was soon born.
Gloria earned both her Bachelor’s degree and her Master’s degree in the field of speech pathology. She experienced the joy of helping people to express themselves, even grown adults who had never before spoken. Furthering her desire to help those with handicaps, she later became a special education teacher.
Gloria was known for her love of language, her intelligence and a sensitivity to the home environment. She was active in her church and eagerly gave words of spiritual encouragement to others.
Gloria is survived by her three children Lynda Sue Cumstay, Stephen Lowell Burke and Ron Madison Burke as well as her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She passed from this earthly domain fittingly on the morning of this Sunday last, removed from the troubles of this world to be united with her Lord Jesus, her savior. Gloria is now steadfastly at peace, awaiting her family and friends to be reunited with her.
