Gordon Loyd Barrett, lovingly known as "Dadaw," passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was 88 years old. Gordon graduated from Banning High School in 1956. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ruby Dean Jarrett Barrett, who passed on February 14, 2018, and by his parents, Loyd A Barrett and Dorothy Orlena Ledger Barrett.
Gordon’s life was one marked by steady love, unwavering presence, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in every life he touched — not through grand gestures or accolades, but through the everyday, powerful act of simply showing up. Whether it was a ball game, a band recital, a graduation, pancake breakfast, or just a quiet moment in need — Dad (Dadaw) was always there.
He is survived by his dear sister, Margaret Fretter of California, and her husband, Bill. He leaves behind his children, who were the pride and joy of his life: Cynthia Barrett-Luce and her husband David of Tuttle; Andrea Polson and her husband Clay of Tuttle; and Richard Loyd Barrett of Moore.
Gordon, or Dadaw as he was fondly known, was a proud and ever-present grandfather to eight grandchildren: Tyler Dronberger and his wife Alexis, Alex Baker and her husband Grant, Connor Polson, Riki Cook and her husband Jaron, Lindsey Polson, Steven Barrett, Grant Polson and his wife Shelby, and Kacy Luce. He was also blessed to witness the joy of four great-grandchildren: Laney Dronberger, Malakai Dronberger, Naomi Baker, and Grady Baker.
If you were sitting near him at a game or a recital, you knew exactly who his grandchild was — because in his eyes, they were always the best on the field, the court, or the stage. He cheered the loudest, loved the hardest, and protected the fiercest. Whether if it was his children or his grandchildren, He was the rock of his family — the foundation on which so much love and strength was built.
Gordon’s greatest legacy wasn’t just the family he raised, but the love he poured into them — the kind of love that shows up, time and time again, no matter what.
