

Harold “Coach” Merideth 88,was born August 9, 1926 and went to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 23, 2014. He was born in Oklahoma City to Metta and William Merideth. Harold graduated early from Central High School and was drafted into the Army January 1945. He proudly served his country as a Private 1st Class paratrooper in the 505th division of the 82nd Airborn. When Harold returned from his military service he played football at Eastern A&M in Wilburton and Central State College in Edmond. Harold went on to earn a Masters of Education Administration degree from The University of Oklahoma. Harold accepted his first coaching position in Borger TX. While in Borger he met Gloria Young, his wife and best friend, of 61 years. Harold continued his successful 20 year football coaching career in Oklahoma City serving as Head Coach at NE, NW Classen and Grant high schools. Coach Merideth was a 3 time All City Coach of the Year and coached the Oil Bowl in 1962. Coach Merideth was well respected by his fellow coaches, players and staff throughout his career. Merideth retired from education as Principal of Western Heights High School. Merideth was a lifelong member and deacon at Olivet Baptist Church where he started the recreation and “Big A” Ministries. Harold was always looked up to as a leader in the church and a life example of Christian morals and ethics. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Gloria, children Jeanine (Jay) Gully, Duane, (Melanie) Merideth and Joe (Toni) Merideth. Grandchildren Kelly (Gary) Mills, Chris Cheek, Jake Gully, Mackenzie and Madison Merideth. Great grandchild Audrey Mills.
